PE and Sport Grant

Schools receive an annual ring-fenced budget for the provision of sports and PE in schools. In 2017 the amount invested by the government in this has been doubled in order to support their target of children accessing 30 minutes of physical activity every day in school.

Purpose of funding

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but schools have been given the freedom to choose how they do this. A list of possible uses has been suggested.

Wheelock Primary school has decided to use the money to:

  • Employ Premier Sport; a sports coaching company, to deliver professional coaching for all children from Years 1 to 6.
  • Purchase equipment for PE lessons as well as outdoor resources.
  • Create a "golden mile" track.
  • Provide weekly "Fit for Life" sessions for all Key Stage 2 children.
  • Provide swimming lessons for all children in Years 3 and 4

The school received a total of £9130 for the academic year 2016/17.

We purchased new gym equipment for children to use in PE lessons and in after-school gymnastics clubs. We also invested in additional PE and sports equipment for use at lunch times with the midday assistants and play leaders.

The total spending for the year was £11,995. The additional funds were provided from the school's budget.
